Prevention Programs
In a survey of high school students, the National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center found that almost 1 in 5 teens had thought about suicide, about 1 in 6 teens had made plans for suicide, and more than 1 in 12 teens had attempted suicide in the last year. Suicide is the THIRD leading cause of death for young people ages 15-24 and we believe that we can save lives by sharing a message of hope and serving as a bridge to services that are available to teens in crisis.

"Stopping Suicide ... One Song at a Time" - A Dynamic and Engaging Interactive Prevention Program for Middle and High School Students
Chances are there's a teenager at your school thinking that suicide is the answer - your student, your child, one of your friends.
Someone probably knows about it - another student, your child, you.
Of course, it's possible nobody knows ... but often there are recognizable warning signs and someone needs to hear that help is available.
Suicide doesn't offer a second chance.
When breaking a secret means saving a life... it's worth talking about!
Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds and the 2nd leading cause of death for American college-age students. Thousands of students are affected by thoughts of suicide every day.
If parents, teachers, counselors, and other teens will start the discussion, we can teach kids how to save lives - to reach out for help or recognize when another is in distress. Teens will often talk with each other about these things. It's critical that we give them the knowledge and resources to know what to do when someone may be suicidal. Working together we can save lives.
In this unique presentation, Dennis Liegghio, founder of NoResolve.org and survivor of suicide, truly connects with students, promoting a message of hope and stopping suicide ... one song at a time. His youthful and enthusiastic personality combined with a powerful musical approach particularly appeals to the students.
In this interactive and entertaining presentation:
- Dennis engages the students by sharing his tragic personal account of losing his dad to suicide when he was only 14 years old.
- He describes his own struggles and eventual triumph over depression and substance abuse and how the song "No Resolve" he wrote in memory of his father became the turning point to his recovery and healing.
- Essential for increasing awareness and promoting prevention, Dennis discusses the warning signs along with the facts and myths of suicide. He then delivers a powerful acoustic performance of "No Resolve" for the students along with several other songs on topic to foster awareness.
- The program closes with a question and answer session using anonymous questions submitted to the teachers or counselors by the students.
- "Breaking The Silence" CD compilations will be made available after the presentation. (A copy of which can be requested for review prior to the scheduled program by contacting NoResolve.org.)
- Printed educational materials are provided for all students.

Testimonials
The NoResolve.org program at Fitzgerald High School really made an impact on some of our students. For example I saw one boy quietly crying, when approached he said he was fine but that this brought up some “old business “ and he felt better knowing he was not alone. Another student came to counseling asking for help for her friend. We were able to give her some resources and she felt better having told an adult. One student came to see her counselor because she was afraid she would not be able to help her friend who had tired to commit suicide with and overdose of pills. This student said she felt better just talking out loud.
The theme seemed to be that many of the students heard the message from Dennis and did not feel isolated any more. They wanted to tell someone of their personal pain and they wanted to be heard and understood. These kids wanted to be able to tell someone who genuinely cared without being judged. This is what Dennis and NoResolve.org reinforced.

THANK YOU so much for coming to Lakeview for what was the best assembly we have ever had. I had many, many students come to my office all day saying how much they loved your music and what you had to say. Some of the students felt they could really relate to you and your story. You truly inspired many students this morning. I appreciate the time you took to come today and all the materials you brought. The kids loved the CD's. I will send you the newspaper article and will keep in touch. Thanks again, Dennis!!! Have a wonderful day!
